2024 Expansion Project Overview
Project Overview
Great Basin Gas Transmission Company (Great Basin) proposes to construct approximately 3.41 miles of natural gas pipeline on three sections of Great Basin’s Carson and South Tahoe Laterals in or near Fernley, Minden, and Carson City, Nevada. The proposed interstate facilities associated with Great Basin’s 2024 Expansion Project (“2024 Expansion Project” or “Project”) will reside in Douglas County, Lyon County, and Storey County, Nevada. Great Basin has designed the proposed new facilities based on the responses to its Open Season. The new facilities will increase the capacity along the Carson and South Tahoe Laterals.
Proposed Current Route
The new facilities will be constructed in three separate segments located along 65 miles of Great Basin’s Carson and South Tahoe Laterals.
The entire Project will be installed in or adjacent to Great Basin’s existing right of way (ROW).
Great Basin will not need to install any new compressors nor make modifications to existing compressors as part of this Project.
Based on Great Basin’s current route assessment, other potential alignments would add length to the pipeline, and may place it in more environmentally sensitive areas.
Truckee Canal segment
The Truckee Canal segment is located south of the Truckee River and west of Fernley, NV along Truckee Lane approximately three miles west of Fernley, NV in Storey County, Nevada. Specifically, Great Basin proposes to construct and operate approximately 0.25 miles of new 20-inch diameter pipeline looping between Carson Lateral mileposts 2.70 and 2.95. This area was previously disturbed during the installation of Great Basin’s original mainline in 1963, and again in 1989 with the installation of the existing main.
Silver Springs segment
The Silver Springs segment extends from Great Basin’s White Sage Pressure Limiting Station north of Silver Springs, running south along Elm Steet and west along Highway 50 to approximately the Silver Springs Airport. The work will be completed within or next to current rights-of-way. Specifically, Great Basin proposes to construct and operate approximately 2.88 miles of new upsized 20-inch diameter pipeline between Carson Lateral mileposts 15.85 and 18.73. In conjunction with the construction of the new pipeline, Great Basin proposes to abandon the existing 10-inch diameter steel pipe. Great Basin proposes to abandon in-place 1.75 miles of 10-inch diameter pipeline between mileposts CA 15.85 and CA 17.60, and abandon by removal 1.13 miles of 10-inch diameter pipeline between mileposts CA 17.60 and CA 18.73 along Great Basin’s Carson Lateral in Silver Springs, Nevada in Lyon County, Nevada. This area was previously disturbed during the installation of Great Basin’s existing lateral and loop lines in 1963, 1981, 2013, and 2017.
Kingsbury segment
The Kingsbury segment is located adjacent to Kingsbury Grade Road (NV 207) approximately 2.5 miles north of Mottsville, Nevada. Specifically, Great Basin proposes to construct and operate approximately 0.28 miles of new 12-inch diameter pipeline looping between South Tahoe Lateral mileposts 0.42 and 0.70 in Douglas County, Nevada. This area was previously disturbed during the installation of Great Basin’s existing lateral in 1964.
